Vanderburgh County recently became headquarters to a major, NYSE-traded company. Vectren Corporation, the product of a merger between Sigcorp and Indiana Energy has chosen Evansville as its corporate home. Vectren’s current payroll, in excess of $50 million with revenue of $1.2 billion makes it the 15th largest corporation in the state. Progress on a major expansion to house a call center serving 59 Indiana counties, 16 Ohio counties and nearly one million customers is well underway. When fully functional, the center will provide in excess of 200 new jobs to the area.

Niel Ellerbrook, Chairman and CEO, credits a number of factors in the company’s decision to locate in Evansville - “The importance to the community of our presence, the solid nature of the workforce, terrific quality of life, accessibility of area leadership and the great natural beauty of the Ohio River as an aesthetic draw as well as a support to industry helped lead to this very significant decision.” According to Ellerbrook, “We are very pleased with our decision. To date, there has been no negative feedback. All of the early signs are positive. The work force and all with whom we have come in contact are dedicated to making Evansville better and preserving the good of the area. They show a recognition of the need for progress and are very supportive.”

Ken Robinson, Executive Director of Vision 2000 states, “We are delighted that Vectren has chosen Evansville. In addition to the added vitality that Vectren’s technological approach, new people and new ideas promise, Evansville will enjoy a stronger utility position and will be identified in a very positive light by companies considering locating in the area as a result of this welcome association.”

Vectren has plans for additional expansion and services, according to Ellerbrook. He states that products and services are evolving. For example Sigecom, Vectren’s telecommunications division, providing cable television service, high speed Internet and data services, and advanced local and long distance telephone service has added 17,000 customers since its start up last year. With pending legislation, more and more customers will have a choice in utility service providers. Vectren is committed to enhancing customer loyalty, being an employer of choice and becoming the leading regional provider of energy and related technology solutions.
